HISTORY

In 2015, Melissa Jones opened the Sexology Institute in downtown San Antonio. The stylish venue was dedicated to comprehensive sex education, coaching, and curated sexual wellness products.
The Institute quickly became a hub for individuals and couples seeking education, guidance, and community in a sex-positive space. The staff offered sex coaching, relationship coaching, sex therapy, workshops, and an exquisite retail experience.

GROWTH & EXPANSION

Over the next ten years, the Sexology Institute grew into a preeminent center for sex education and coaching. It outgrew its original space and relocated to a larger location nearby. There, it expanded its offerings to include more community events and expert-led courses.

A significant milestone was the creation of the Sex Coach Training Program in 2017, which formalized the Institute’s commitment to training professionals in the field of sex coaching. The program brought together therapists, educators, and experienced sex coaches as faculty, providing a structured pathway for students to become certified sex coaches.
Going Global

Like businesses around the world, the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020 presented challenges. With in-person events and coaching sessions becoming impossible, the Institute transitioned its Sex Coach Training Program to an entirely online format.
This pivotal change allowed students from around the world to access high-quality sex coaching education and receive training remotely. Many of the program's graduates went on to establish their own coaching practices, and some were invited to stay on as faculty members - further enriching the program.

Coaching-Focused Future
After a decade of growth, the Sexology Institute wound down its retail operations to fully dedicate itself to sex coach training, coaching services, and educational workshops.
In March 2025, Melissa Jones transitioned leadership of the Sex Coach Training Program and the Sexology Institute to Shannon Burton, an experienced and highly respected sex coach and business leader.
With her deep expertise in coaching, business management, and education, Shannon Burton continues the Institute’s legacy, ensuring that future generations of sex coaches receive the highest level of training and preparation for success.
